Once at the pond, I abandon my mask and look at my face reflected in the water. What I see does not surprise me anymore, but it makes me a bit uncomfortable still. Even though I am a deer now, I find it odd that in my own dream I wear someone else’s face instead of mine; and as I drink of the cool water, I wonder if someone I don’t know is a deer with my face in his own dream?
The water tastes both sweet and bitter to me, and it makes me recall fairytales about enchanted springs that would turn anyone who drinks their water into a beast.
